Here are a few tips and suggestions that hopefully will help make you and your holidays a little more light and airy feeling:
1. If you are asked to bring a dish to pass for a holiday gathering or even if you are the one preparing the main feast, try to offer a healthy choice such as fresh vegetables or try searching online for a healthier version of some of the classic dishes. Chances are there will be enough of the heavier feeling foods that your lighter dish will be much appreciated.
2. Practice portion control. It is almost guaranteed that you will encounter stuffing and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. Put a small serving on your plate so that you are able to get a taste but then load up on more of the healthy choices like sweet potatoes and turkey. Once you've had enough to eat, put your plate away so it doesn't become tempting to go for seconds.
3. Focus on the friends and family. As you are gathered with your loved ones, don't forget the best and most lasting memories will be the time you share together.
